This will be a well-rounded and inspiring workshop for textile enthusiasts to create their own unique fabric designs.

During this 5-day workshop, you will develop your own personal narrative in pattern design, learning how to screen-print, block print and stencil these concepts onto fabric, using simple and effective techniques.

You will create a series of textile samples on calico with the aim of producing a meaningful finished piece of textile, on linen, towards the end of the 5 days.

The course will be underpinned with discussions on contemporary textile artists and designers, as well as providing you with plenty of resource material.

You will create your inspirational mood board of ideas, mix your own unique colour combinations of inks, and deep dive into learning the tricks and techniques of creating pattern repeats.

About Katie Smith:

Katie Smith of Smitten Textile Print Design is smitten with colour, textures, fabric and ink. She has been working with fabric in one way or another her entire life. From clothes to interiors to conceptual art, she has always been fascinated by the power of fabric to transform places, space and people. Her textile crush started as a teenager, hoarding charity-shop fabrics in her room. In her own practice, quality over quantity and sustainability remain core to her business and artistic ethos.

After completing a craft design Certificate in Textiles, Katie completed an MA in Textile Art at Goldsmiths University in London in 1995.

Returning to N.Z. in 2001, she hasn’t stopped living and breathing in textiles. As well as her own consulting and print-design work; Katie has a desire to teach others the beauty that can be found in textile printing. Alongside her Smitten workshops, she also teaches at the Nanette School of Interior Design, and as a tutor in print making at Whitecliffe School of Art and Design
