Phil Ridgway is the owner/director of the Melbourne School of Bookbinding. He created the Melbourne School of Bookbinding approximately 20 years ago in order to pass on his binding knowledge and skills. The MSB has helped to create a growing community of people with an interest in Bookbinding.

His bindings are in the collections of most state libraries in Australia and in private and public collections across the world, including France and Samoa.

Course outline

The focus of the workshop this year will be a binding structure sometimes known as a library binding. We will be undertaking a quarterbound version in leather and paper. Students will learn rounding and backing, how to make a hollow back and split-boards.

All levels are welcome although some experience would be advantageous.

There will be many opportunities to personalise your binding, and there will be options for advanced students to expand their skills and knowledge base.

There will be a materials fee for this class.
